We the unwilling, led by the unqualified, have been doing the unbelievable for so long, with so little, we now attempt the impossible with nothing. - Mini-School Credo

Something Different: Staff Viewpoint

December 1, 1976 by Mini Archives

By Doug Berg

On Friday morning, December 10th, the Mini-School program held school from midnight to 4:00 a.m. The excuse for this midnight madness was the telethon going on on Channel 2, which has programming going on for 24 hours in order to raise money. The late night programming has included numerous old movies, some of which were viewed by Mini-School kids Friday morning.

Other activities Friday morning besides watching the flick on 2 were an ongoing basketball game (Berg’s team 3 games-Dirk’s team 0 games), a marathon floor hockey game, an interminable volleyball game, an abbreviated broomball game, tree decorating, room painting, a viewing of ““genocide–Hitler’s massacre of the Jews” (at 3:00 in the morning! Only in Mini-School), and wall decorating by Barry Stodola. Mini-School probably has not had better attendance all year, and the current crop of Mini-Schoolers was augmented by such ghosts from the past as J. J., Dirk Dehnel, Jack Brisley, Brett Otterson, Barb Hanna, and Kevin Schierman.

All in all, the morning went quite smoothly. Considering the various states in inebriation of some of the participants, it is remarkable that nothing more drastic occurred than a bit of writing on the wall. The whole thing might be worth doing again—but not for awhile. Meanwhile, Mini-School perhaps should send a pledge to Channel 2 for providing the impetus for something different.
