We the unwilling, led by the unqualified, have been doing the unbelievable for so long, with so little, we now attempt the impossible with nothing. - Mini-School Credo

Black Sabbath with Pantera & Incubus

March 1, 1999 by Mini Archives

By Audrey Lopez

Black Sabbath held a concert at the Target Center January 17th. This was my second time seeing them. They played with Incubus and Pantera, two other great bands, all of which played at Ozzfest one time or another.

I went with four of my friends. This time I sat in the seats so I had a different perspective on things, There were chairs on the floor which was unusual since this was a “hard-core” concert. By the time Pantera got out, everyone had the chairs in a large pile.

Incubus played first. They’re a much different style than most bands this type, because they are much more creative. They use different instruments such as a didgeridoo and bongos. A great opening band, but no one seemed to appreciate them.

Pantera was probably the most popular. Of course they played most of their well known songs which please all. The crowd was fairly wild and fairly drunk. Phil Anselmo (the lead singer) sure had a lot to say to the crowd. Offering a shot of liquor to one of the security guards, he was very humorous. Also leading the audience in a good old round of ‘Happy Birthday’ for Big Val, a roadie of theirs, it was a very enjoyable set.

Black Sabbath together again! This show I’d have to say was much better than the first one I saw. They played the greats like War Pigs, Iron Man, and Paranoid. They even had fire on the sides in giant torches, very cool. Their whole performance was excellent. At the very end they released black confetti that said Black Sabbath in silver all over the crowd. It was a very memorable ending.
