At $7.20 an hour and the great people I work with, it almost makes me forget I’m working with artificial meat and vegetables that have been pre-packaged for McDonald’s use only.
I remember when I first started working there in December 1995. I worked in the back assembling the food that we serve to the customers with no appreciation for our hard work. Now, I am the jack of all trades. I do drive thru (which I hate) and front counter. If I had a choice, I would work in the back so I wouldn’t have to deal with people.
Mickey D’s has flexible hours. They will work around your schedule. They will usually understand when you can’t make it into work or if they don’t they won’t b#@ at you and refuse you the day off. Over a year and a half that I’ve worked there, I have probably called in about 200 times and they still haven’t fired me.
Memories have been made. I’ve seen people come and go. I remember when it was icy along the drive thru and somebody ran into the shed where we keep our excess grease. His truck was covered. Or when the ketchup wouldn’t work for Jackie (an old lady that works in back) and she got really mad and walked out.
This job was only supposed to last me until freshman year was over, but it’s been so fun and I’ve learned so much that I just can’t seem to leave.
