On Sunday September 24th, I went to the North Star Ballroom to see the Lookout! Freakout tour. The three bands representing Lookout! Records were The Eyeliners, American Steel and The Mr. T Experience.
I have been a big fan of MTX (Mr. T Experience) for a long time now, and I had only seen them once. I missed them last year due to deer camp, so I was really excited to see them.
The opening band was an all girl band, The Eyeliners. I had never heard of them before, but they played really well. I think the guitar player and bass player were sisters, and the drummer did a really swell job playing and singing at the same time.
The second band was American Steel. I had bought the Lookout! Freakout CD, and fell in love with their song “Got A Backbeat”. They consist of two guitar players, a bass player, and a drummer. They played for maybe half an hour. They played fast, and hard punk rock. I enjoyed them.
Finally at exactly 9:00 pm, Doctor Frank (the guitar player for MTX) came out with Jim the drummer, and their new bassist Gabe. Like the last time I saw them, Doctor Frank started out by saying “This song’s about a girl.” They played a lot of older songs such as “Let’s be Together Tonight,” “More than Toast,” and “Velveeta.” They played a few off their new EP too, and I liked their newer stuff better than their last CD. This concert was what I’d hoped for and more.
