We the unwilling, led by the unqualified, have been doing the unbelievable for so long, with so little, we now attempt the impossible with nothing. - Mini-School Credo

Movie Review: Twister

November 1, 1996 by Mini Archives

By Kortnie Hansen

Twister is filmed in Oklahoma, during the summer of 1996 when a series of storms were lined up. One hits right after another. A crew of tornado chasers have a device called Dorothy which was designed to get sent up in the tornado and will send back information to a computer about what goes on inside of the tornado. With this device the crew figures they can change the tornado warning from 3 minutes to 15 minutes. The characters have some problems with Dorothy. She won’t fly. They need to make her fly.

Jo and Billy are the main characters. They were married, Billy needed to have Jo sign divorce papers so he could marry his new fiancĂ©, Melissa. Billy and Jo start fighting and a tornado is spotted. Jo and the crew go up to chase it. Billy noticed Jo didn’t sign the divorce papers. From there he got caught up in chasing storms and fell back in love with Jo.

When Jo was a little girl an F-5 tornado stormed through the town where she lived. It ripped her dad right out of the storm shelter. Ever since then Jo has been obsessed with tornados.

As far as the rest of the crew- they find tornados. They need to get Dorothy in the destruction path. After trying three times it doesn’t work. Jo and Billy almost die. They find an F-5 tornado, a very strong tornado, and they drive Billy’s truck into it. Dorothy works. Just after they get Dorothy flying the tornado shifts direction and starts coming after Billy and Jo. They run for their lives and end up tying themselves to a pipe that is in a shed. The tornado goes right over them.

They were holding onto the pipe looking into the tornado. It was just like the one Jo’s dad got killed in!
