This issues’ featured student is Phil Lynott. I got to know Phil on last year’s Arkansas trip. He is a very easy going person. You could put him in any situation, and he would take on any challenge with a smile.
I had the pleasure of personally speaking with Phil about his experience in Mini and plans for the future. Phil is a senior and has been in Mini for one year. He has been in a few other alternative programs, and in comparison he describes Mini as well, “Awesome.” He particularly likes the family atmosphere of the program as well as the many ways to earn credit. Phil is the reigning king of calendars (Mini-school’s fundraiser). Last year he sold an unprecedented 75 calendars. Not to be outdone by himself, this year he has promised Doug he would sell 150. Well, wish him good luck.
As for his plans after Mini, Phil intends on taking a year off and moving to Ely where he can relax and find himself. He may graduate early, and if so, he plans on owning a Humm-Vee. In ten years, when I see a Humm-Vee parked outside Burger Brothers, I’ll be happy to go inside and find Phil stocking blaze orange hunting apparel and singing the scat jazz he wrote in my notebook so long ago, with a smile.
